A Joyful Juneteenth Freedom Jam

A Joyful Juneteenth Freedom Jam

3 - 6pm ET/12 - 3pm PT

This joyful retreat, facilitated by Dr. Kamilah Majied, will be a relaxing space to recover from racism and rejoice in Blackness. Dr. Michelle Chatman, chair of the CMind board and Founder of the Black Mindfulness Summit, cites the Yoruba expression “suffering ends today.” This wise adage reminds us that we can, using our masterfully creative, meditative, prayerful, playful minds, release suffering at any moment and decide to attend to enjoying our lives whenever and however we please. This is a truth that is known and enacted by Black people everywhere, every day, all day. We celebrate Black Excellence taking center stage in every realm from academics to gymnastics, from poetry to politics. Blackcellence is within us and all around us! Come celebrate it with us!

Self-selected registration: $10/$25/$50

Proceeds from your financial offerings will be shared with Mothers of the Movement, Unlock the Box, the teachers of the retreat, and CMind’s event scholarship fund.

Join us for as much of the gathering as your time allows. Live via Zoom; connection information will be shared once registered. Registration closes an hour before the event.

This gathering is open to ALL Black People regardless of ability to pay a registration fee. Please email Maya@contemplativemind.org for a free link if you are unable to pay for registration.

Stayed on Freedom: Contemplating Black Histories, Black Presence, and Black Futures from the Perspective of Buddhism

Stayed on Freedom: Contemplating Black Histories, Black Presence, and Black Futures from the Perspective of Buddhism

The core aspiration and actualization of Buddhist practice is absolute freedom. Freedom in Buddhism does not depend on external circumstances as it transcends all circumstances so that we may notice and act upon the truth that we are free within ourselves.

Black people throughout the Diaspora have manifested this conviction, knowing ourselves to be in and of freedom regardless of the restrictions placed on us.

The interactive dialogue with Dr. Kamilah Majied will highlight the profound relevance of Buddhism to Black liberation. Dr. Majied invites us to explore the wisdom of Buddhism as it relates to Black histories, Black presence, and Black futures.
